Rani Price finds out about how computer science is changing the fashion industry. She meets Dr Melissa Kao, who has combined a mirror with a video camera, motion sensor and computer to create a virtual changing room that allows shoppers to superimpose images of clothes onto their reflection. They can then share images on social networks. Computer scientist Marta Tomecka shows Rani how she uses an avatar to virtually model clothes. Marta predicts a future where all clothes will be made to exactly fit the buyer.
This clip is from the BBC series Beneath the Lab Coat, in which Rani Price meets young scientists working at the cutting edge of British industry. From cybernetics and fashion, to sport, space exploration and the chemical makeup of sun cream, she discovers the huge range of exciting career possibilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
